Exchanging experience: Confluence & Jira Community Day 2012

The annual Confluence & Jira Community Day for the German-speaking area (organised by Communardo Software GmbH) took place last week in the Haus am Domplatz in Frankfurt. Dirk Röhrborn (CEO Communardo) opened with an interesting keynote about agile processes in organisation and pointed out historical and modern implications. Sven Peters then outlined the passion as key and driving force to successfully develop software at Atlassian.

Best practice presentations then gave an insight into the diversity of application possibilities of ConfluenceConfluence is a web-based corporate wiki written in Java and mainly used in corporate environments. Gerd started his career at Morawa Pressevertrieb and completed an apprenticeship as Wholesaler. He realised that this cannot be the end of the road and improved his education by passing A-levels beside this day job. His passion for libraries and the World Wide Web made his decision clear: he studied Information Management (specialising in Library Sciences) at the University of Applied Sciences in Eisenstadt (Austria). He first came into contact with the Semantic Web in a Knowledge Management project with a global player in the building industry. After his graduation he worked in several projects as Research Assistant in technology assessment, as Data manager for online enquiries or as Director's assistant for a TV documentary. Then he went to Saigon (Vietnam) to work as Customer Care Manager and Library Projects Consultant for DIGI-TEXX, an IT company specialised in Data Entry and Text Recognition Services. Promoted to Marketing and Communications Manager he gained insight into the global business world before returning to Vienna, joining the Austrian National Library in the IMPACT project to coordinate evaluation and demonstration of software tools along digitisation and text recognition workflows. At Semantic Web Company Gerd is promotor and coordinator of the interchange of Linked Open Data research activities and the product development of our PoolParty suite.
