Meet us @ TRIPLE-I 2008 in Graz

From September 3 – 5, 2008 you can meet us at this year’s TRIPLE-I conference. TRIPLE-I is being jointly organised by the Know Center Graz and ourselves (with a lot of help from others) and brings together the former stand alone conferences I-KNOW, I-MEDIA and I-SEMANTICS. The year before we attracted 550 participants comprising researchers and practicioners in the converging fields of knowledge management, new media technologies and semantic systems. One nice USP is the high amount of business people, analysts and consultants from various domains seeking to catch up with latest developments in the field. This year’s program consists of approximately 120 presentations and various transfer and networking events that aim to spread the news and views and get it out of the echo chamber. Key Notes will be held by Tom Heath (Talis), Henry Lieberman (MIT), Dickson Lukose (MIMOS Malaysia) and Peter Kemper (Shell).

Of course I am biased towards the event, but take a look! It’s worth it!

Linked Open Data Triplification Challenge: Nominees are up, voting tool is online

The nominees for the LOD Triplification Challenge are up! The challenge was organized as part of the preparations for the I-SEMANTICS 2008 conference and asked for submissions in the form of applications of Linked Open Data tools, RDF and Linked Data exporters, adoptions of configurations of Triplify for standard web applications, portings of the triplify script into other languages (e.g. Python, Ruby, Perl, ASP) and for applications showcasing the benefits of Linked Data to end-users.

TriplifyTriplify itself is a small web application plugin – its crucial parts consisting of roughly 200 lines of code – currently only implemented in PHP. It is based on the definition of relational database queries for a specific web application in order to retrieve valuable information and to convert the results of these queries into RDF, JSON and Linked Data. More information about Triplify can be found here.

On to the nominees: Eight of the submissions were nominated and can now be voted on using the poll widget on the nominations page. The nominees are:

  1. Automatic Generation of a Content Management System from an OWL ontology and RDF import and export by Alastair Burt, Brigitte Jörg.

Proudly Introducing: A New Strategic Partnership

Ladder of Knowledge, BarcelonaWe have more good news: In January already we teamed up with Know-Center Graz, Austria’s Competence Center for Knowledge Management, to form a strategic partnership. It’s a pleasure to see that our new strategic partner is as pleased about the partnership as we are:-) Here is a statement by Prof. Dr. Klaus Tochtermann, head of Know-Center Graz:

“SWC has established itself as one of the leading companies in the area of semantic technologies. SWC maintains excellent relations with the national and international Semantic Web Community. We are using semantic technologies in a number of our projects, and there is a constant need for expert contacts, information about recent development and about the needs of companies. This explains why we are very keen on gaining a partner like SWC who is able to grant us access to these communities and to this type of information. There aren’t many possible partners in Austria that have the competence and network to meet our needs – SWC is exactly the kind of partner we were looking for.“

One of the exciting projects we are embarking on together is the organization of the Triple-I 2008 conference in Graz in September. Once again, it is going to be a 3-in-1 event, as Triple-I is a joint venture of three conferences which all cover essential areas within semantic technology: I-Know, the Conference for Knowledge Management, I-Media, the Conference for New Media Technologies, and I-Semantics, the Conference for Semantic Systems. The Call for Paper is still open, and we are looking forward to your submissions:

The conference is scheduled for 3 to 5 September 2008 – see you in Graz!
